Internet Censorship

When first appeared the Web should have brought absolute freedom providing instant and unrestricted access to all its resources, irrelevant of their content. The illusion did not survive for a long time. Governments were not ready to miss such a splendid tool of managing human minds.   Many of them have declared the necessity to care for the moral make-up of its citizens, protect them from a range of different threats  such as terrorism and drug trafficking, foster their children as worthy members of the society.  Applying different sets of reasons   a range of governments managed to create systems of Internet controlling and filtering the Internet content.
The best example of such policies is the range of mechanisms including governmental regulations applied in the Chinese People’s Republic. Even the world leading Internet search engines  such as Google have to make concessions to enter the market. But the mentioned example is not the only one though may be the most successful and notorious.
By the way, not only so-called non-democratic states apply the mentioned filtering strategies. Australia, being a respectful old democracy is going to make use of the Internet filter Clean Feed.  Though the law-makers who are pushing the project insist it will do good to the moral make-up of the country’s population protecting people from obscene pages such as child pornography, some human rights advocates are not sure that the mentioned reason is justified enough as China used the same one when installing its Firewall.
What’s really funny is that lots of countries which use different kinds of  filtering systems  do not produce the necessary equipment and have to order it in developed (f.e. iPhone Development ) countries which  sell it making profits at the same time protesting against Internet censorship. For example, Siemens and Nokia delivered such technologies to the Iran government while Cisco’s coders go to the Chinese government. French company Alcatel provided Myanmar with eavesdropping devices. The list can be continued showing a bit hypocritical policy of the developed society which is now struggling to keep the Internet as a universal forum free of any restrictions and limitations.
However, for the majority of users it’s not that relevant whether they can read the latest news on the uprising of those who do not agree with the government. Modern users switch to the Internet to visit favorite social networks, discuss the celebrities gossips and share results of the latest sports event.
